2. The app

2.1 What the app processes, and where

MailFundus Archive reads the messages that Apple Mail has stored on your Mac and writes them into an archive file at a location you choose. This processing takes place entirely on your device. No messages, no metadata, no search terms, and no usage statistics are transmitted to us or to anyone else. The app does not access your mail accounts or mail servers.

To read Mail's storage, the app asks you once to grant access to the Mail folder in the Open dialog. This grant is used solely to read that folder. It ends when you remove the app.

2.2 Controlling Mail

The app controls Apple Mail through the scripting interface of macOS. As soon as you open the step “Delete from Mail” in the guided flow, MailFundus Archive asks Mail for account and mailbox names, message counts, and message identifiers, the Message-IDs, to build the preview. After you confirm, it moves verified messages to Mail's Trash, and after you empty the Trash it asks Mail which messages are gone. The app uses the same interface to show a mailbox in Mail, “Show in Mail”. Through this interface no message contents are read, no messages are sent, and no messages are restored to Mail. “Restore to Mail” writes files, .mbox or .eml, that you import into Mail yourself. Nothing in Mail is deleted permanently. You empty the Trash yourself. This control runs locally between the two programs on your Mac.

The first time you open the step “Delete from Mail”, macOS asks you in a system dialog whether the app may control Mail. You can see and revoke this permission at any time under “System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation”. Without it, MailFundus Archive moves nothing. You can then delete in Mail yourself and let the app check afterwards.

2.3 Manual and App Store

When you open the manual inside the app, MailFundus Archive loads the current version from mailfundus.com. When the app runs in German, it comes from mailfundus.de. Our web server sees your IP address as it does with any page view, see 3.1. Nothing else is transmitted. Without a connection, the app shows the bundled version.

In addition, the app asks the App Store, through Apple's purchase interface (StoreKit), for the price of the full version and for your purchases. Apple handles that connection, see 2.4. We receive no purchase or payment data and no data about you. The app makes no other network connections.

2.4 Purchase through the Mac App Store

When you buy MailFundus Archive through the Mac App Store, Apple processes your purchase and account data under Apple's own privacy policy. We receive no personal data about buyers from Apple.

2.5 Crash reports

The app contains no crash reporting or analytics library of its own. Whether macOS sends diagnostic data to Apple is your choice in System Settings under Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements.

3. This website

3.1 Server logs

This website runs on a server we rent from IONOS SE in Berlin, Germany. When you open a page, the web server automatically records in its log files: the IP address of your device, date and time, the page requested, the amount of data transferred, the page you came from, the referrer, and the type and version of your browser. This data serves the secure and trouble-free operation of the site, Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR, and is deleted automatically after 14 days. It is not combined with any other data.

3.2 No cookies, no trackers, no external content

This website sets no cookies, uses no analytics or advertising services, and loads no fonts, scripts, or images from third-party servers.

3.3 Contact by email

If you write to us, we process what you send in order to answer your request, Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b and f GDPR. Messages are kept for as long as handling your request and any follow-up questions require.

4. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. The authority responsible for us is the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Since the app transmits no data to us, in practice these rights concern only email contact and the server logs. To exercise them, write to info@coolblack.gmbh.

5. Changes

This policy is updated whenever features of the app or of this website change. The current version is always available at this address.
